Sustainability trailblazer Tamerlane's Daughters is steeped in history

SUSTAINABILITY

Tamerlane’s Daughters has been entirely sustainable since its inception in 2004, long before sustainability became an ethos.

Founded with the mission of breathing new life into centuries-old textiles, the studio transforms carbon-free antique fabrics into designs that endure for generations.

Tamerlane’s Daughters strives to innovate, adopting new environmental solutions as they become available – including, in recent years, sustainable packaging and shipping.

Karina is proud to say that Tamerlane’s Daughters is one of the rare luxury creators to operate 100% climate neutral.

Zero-Footprint Fabrics

The textile industry is responsible for 9% of global greenhouse gas emissions each year. Even organic fabric production is only 40% less damaging to the environment than conventional one.

The only truly environmentally friendly choice, at present, are vintage and antique fabrics.

Tamerlane’s Daughters’ museum-quality antique textiles not only surpass contemporary fabrics in craftsmanship – they also have a zero-carbon footprint.

Quality over Quantity

In Europe and the US alone, a combined 18 million tonnes of textile waste are sent to landfill every year – 85% discarded after only three to five years of use.

Tamerlane’s Daughters creates a limited number of unique investment pieces each year.

Overseen by Karina, designs are meticulously crafted in our own studios in London and Fez, employing non-carbon methods such as hand-sewing and hand-embroidery.

Zero-Waste Design Ethic

As a textile collector, Karina is a natural preservationist.

Remnants of Tamerlane’s Daughters’ precious antique fabrics – however small – are carefully conserved for details and smaller design projects.

Green Packaging

Tamerlane’s Daughters trusts its creations to do the talking.

Our packaging strategy is built around the circular economy and focuses on neutral, unbranded shipping materials that maximise reusability for our clients.

At the end of their lifespan, the plain-textured organic cardboard boxes are fully recyclable and biodegradable.

Green Shipping

Second in pollution only to the power industry, global transport generates 20% of annual greenhouse gas emissions.

Tamerlane’s Daughters ships 100% carbon neutral using DHL GoGreen.

The innovative service optimises transport routes, uses energy-efficient vehicles and warehouses, and offsets all unavoidable emissions through investments in recognised environmental protection programs.

People First

Karina nurtures personal, long-term relationships with the individual craftswomen who bring Tamerlane’s Daughters’ designs alive.

Our small team of petites mains, embroiderers, and seamstresses is made up exclusively of female masters between the ages of fifty and eighty – a group often overlooked due to age and gender bias, despite having one of the richest skill sets.

It goes without saying that Tamerlane’s Daughters cherishes and empowers its talented artisans who, in turn, loyally support the studio in all its endeavours.
