OUR ANTIQUE TEXTILES
Museum-quality antique textiles are the heart and soul of Tamerlane’s Daughters, the starting point of all our creations.
Most date to the 19th century – silk embroideries from a Turkmen ceremonial cloak and gold appliqués from an Ottoman wedding dress are just a couple of the treasures Karina has hand-picked travelling the world as a collector.
History lingers in their threads.
Karina is particularly devoted to the textile traditions of Central Asia and Japan, returning to them again and again in her work. Both cultures have always viewed their weaving and needlework not as crafts, merely, but as works of art.
As every region has its textiles, every textile has its story. Here, Karina shares a few.
